The Rugby World Cup opening was an awesome event! I had the brilliant idea of taking the train into town to meet Matt and friends to watch the opening. However it seemed millions of others had the same idea, train after train went past full. A parent from school also waiting, decided to drive to town - the motorway beside us was empty - and offered me a ride! I could add much more on the epic fail of public transport...but leave it at that. We were there with a few others... two hundred thousand others or more!
Totally missed the waka's coming in - luckily Matt had the camera! Also one did a paddle around while I were in there as the sun set - beautiful.
Obviously a platform to see properly was needed and some silly person left their car there! Think it may have been the company attempting to fix the big screens that failed all round the city...
The the opening was shown on the big screen - followed by fireworks!!! They were spectacular.
Some clown got a hoist up onto the bus...quite a lot of hijinks...
Walking to the train we spotted the game being projected onto the side of a building as well!
On getting to the train we discover thousands are also trying to get home...and the downtown area had been closed due to overcrowding!! So taxi home it was...but a great night out!

What a Waka!! Would have been interesting to see them, and the fireworks... but 200,000 people!!! You can keep them. Would have been interesting if the wharf had moved a little with all that many on it :(
